AI can generate a thousand “Japanese-style” templates before lunch — cherry blossoms, red lanterns, a torii gate silhouette. None of it is actually Japanese design. It’s a costume.

Real restraint — the kind of negative space that makes a page feel expensive rather than empty, the deliberate imperfection, years of instinct for where a line should break — isn’t something a model can pattern-match from a prompt. It has to be made by someone who grew up inside the aesthetic, not someone who studied it from the outside.
